PRESS RELEASE 14.2.2019
Llandovery Museum and Visitor Gateway – A new beginning
We are able to offer to the residents of Llandovery and surrounding villages and hamlets the opportunity to be part of an exciting new project from the very start.
We are currently looking for volunteers to provide help and expertise in the future of a new museum and tourist information centre to exhibit the history and culture of Llandovery and surrounding villages that will shortly be opening its doors in the centre of the town. Housed in the building that was formerly the Heritage Centre, the museum has been set up by an independent group comprised of several interested parties, volunteers and trustees.
On April 12th, visitors will have the first opportunity to view the displays. There has been an enthusiastic response and there is an abundance of interesting items to exhibit. We have a rich cultural inheritance in the upper Tywi valley, and our aim is to convey this wealth by means of interpretive bilingual displays that will be extended during the remainder of 2019 as we gather more help and your ideas.
There are many opportunities for volunteers to join in and contribute – including local and oral history, general research, curatorial duties, greeting visitors and setting up displays. Naturally, we are inviting everyone who is interested to help with this exciting venture for Llandovery and the surrounding area. If you could contribute a few hours a week or a month then we would like to hear from YOU. Experience is not required just an enthusiasm to contribute to your newest local community project.
Should you have any artefacts, photographs, books or any historical items you think your friends, neighbours or visitors to the area would be interested in then we would like to hear from you.
If you would like further information please contact either of the following:
Jane Carter (Volunteer support) on enquiries@llandoverymuseum.wales
or
Gary Strevens (Secretary) on 07957 440040
We are looking forward to seeing or hearing from YOU soon – come and join us and make a difference!
